| Accommodation and lunch in Delta Hotel (4*), in Tulcea. Visit of the Eco-Tourist Museum of the Danube Delta around 16.30-17.00. This is your first contact with the beautiful world of the Danube Delta, which you will be exploring in the forthcoming days. The museum will provide you information about the delta genesis, large flora and fauna pictures, traditional objects which belong to the delta inhabitants, and basins and aquariums delta fish. Before dinner you can admire the Independence Monument built by the Greeks on the ruins of the old City of Aegyssus in the 4th century B.C. |

Histria
Histria was founded by Greek colonists from Miletus around 657 BC (After historian Eusebius of Caesarea ) or 630 BC (After Skymnos), the port on the Black Sea and destroyed the seventh century AD invasions Avar – slave .
Politically, Histria played an important role by participating in Pontic cities’ revolt against King Macedonian Lysimachus, the war against Byzantium and conflict in the opposite Mithridates VI Eupator Romans.
Around the year 260 BC., Histria fortress allied with Callatis to wrest the city Byzantion control port Tomis.
Strabo wrote that Histria is “at a distance of 500 sacred mouth stages of Istria”.
Tulcea
Tulcea municipality of residence and largest city of Tulcea County, Dobrogea, Romania. It is situated on 7 hills of Tulcea Hills, a fireplace continuously inhabited since time Gumelnita (2900-2200 BC), continuing with Aegyssus Greek settlement (eighth century BC), the port and Roman city in centuries I – II AD, the city of Tulcea called the reign of Mircea the Elder. Under Ottoman rule, the city decades, a revival being recorded with the opening of the Sulina canal. The town was first documented in 1506.
The town was successively under Byzantine (5th – 7th century), Genoese (10th – 13th century) and Ottoman rule before finally being reunited with Romania in 1878.
Some of the highlights include St. Nicholas’ Church (1865), the Azzizie Mosque (1924), the Danube Delta History Museum (a good introduction to the region’s flora and fauna plus the traditional way of life of the Danube Delta’s fishermen can be found here. The live fish collection comprises local prey and domestic species from lakes, rivers and seas, as well as exotic species from Latin America, South America, southwest Asia and central Africa), the Art Museum, and the History and Archeology Museum. The local Lipovani Russian and Turkish minorities lend the city a multi-ethnic flavor.
Danube Delta
Delta is limited to the south-west of Dobrogea Plateau, north forms the border with Ukraine, and in the east flows into the Black Sea. Delta is intersected by the parallel of 45 ° N latitude and the meridian of 29 ° longitude E. Due to the 67 million tons silt brought by the Danube , the Danube Delta grows annually approx. 40 m².
Sulina is situated in the heart of the Delta, and unlike Chilia has a linear course, being continually dredged and maintained navigation maritime vessels. It has a length of 71 km and carry 18% of the water of the Danube.
Delta (except secondary delta Chilia ) is traditionally part of Dobrogea, but in antiquity and the Middle Ages, the coast is much more to the west (between Chilia Old and Murighiol Strabo’s time, between Periprava and Lake Dranov the era Byzantine ) so Dobrogea containing historical maps representing all current Delta are false. Delta vegetation consists largely of specific vegetation wetlands ( reed, bulrush, sedge, mixed with willow ) and occupies 78% of the total. Coppices covers 6% of the delta, the forests of willow, ash, alder, poplar, growing on levees river, is regularly flooded and ponds are covered by aquatic vegetation and floating, holding 2% of the delta. There are also forests to fields Letea and Caraorman and consist of gray oak, English oak, ash, aspen, elm, climbing plants. It contains more than 320 species of birds as well as 45 freshwater fish species in its numerous lakes and backwaters. This is where millions of birds from different corners of the Earth (Europe, Asia, Africa, the Mediterranean ) come to nest. Major fish species in the Delta are pike and catfish.
